CHARLOTTE HOMES Founded in the 1760’s, the town of Weddington is located in Union County about 15 miles southeast of downtown Charlotte. Weddington covers approximately 15 square miles and is comprised of mainly low-density single-family housing- with a focus on large, wooded lots. With a population of approximately 8,500, Weddington has the atmosphere of a small town and a quality of life. Most homebuyers are drawn to the natural environment and close-knit community structure that characterize this unique area. friethorne-backside-houses-with-green

Through the War to End All Wars, the Roaring twenties, the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, the birth of “rock and roll”, turmoil in the 1960′s, landing on the moon, and the Bicentennial most of North Carolina, and our part of Union County, remained largely agricultural.  Family farms, two lane roads and a “long drive” to Charlotte were the norm. But with the 1970′s and Charlotte’s growth, it wasn’t  long before farmlands would begin giving way to new subdivisions and those two lane, farm to market roads carried increased traffic.  Farming equipment and tractors were replaced by SUVs and “Beamers”.

WAXHAW REAL ESTATE Typically referred to as “horse country”, the town of Waxhaw dates back to the 1700s, but it wasn’t until 1888 that the railroad, laying tracks to Atlanta, brought prosperity. Tracks still run through the center of town along the green, grassy strip dividing two rows of stores. The community was once dependent on cotton, but in the early 1960s, Waxhaw reshaped itself as an antique and equestrian community. The town currently has dozens of specialty shops and dining ranging from mom & pop restaurants to fine dining bistros. One major draw to the area is the annual Queens Cup Steeplechase at Brooklandwood farms and Cane Creek Park, a 1,050-acre park that draws visitors with its 350-acre bass trophy lake, public beach with swimming and walking trails. 1114

Matthews Real Estate Matthews, NC began as a small farming community in the 1800s. Cotton farmers cleared the land for new plantings, leaving tree stumps in all directions; thus, the first name for the community became known as “Stumptown”. The history of Matthews runs deep, but most of the town’s 25,000 residents moved to Matthews in the past decade, attracted by affordable subdivisions, strong schools and the historic, pedestrian-friendly downtown.  Some historic Matthews homes remain around the fringes of Matthews town center, however the area has seen tremendous growth with new subdivisions.  Homes in Matthews range from new transitionals to historic colonials to craftsman style.

Charlotte Real Estate News The Charlotte Mecklenburg DOT contacted Helen Adams Realty today with an update on the Selwyn Road Priject  The DOT is considering changing part of Selwn Road from 4 lanes to 3 lanes and adding traffic circles.  The final plan has not had final approval yet, but a decision is expected soon.  I was told that Selwyn Road work will be done during 2009.  This could mean the resurfacing or the total rework of the street.  Selwyn Avenue is scheduled to be resurfaced as part of the City’s resurfacing contract for 2009. CDOT is currently analyzing the possibility of applying a street conversion to Selwyn Avenue. We would like to hear what the Selwyn Avenue area residents, and the general commuting public, think about a Selwyn Avenue street conversion. The following are a few questions/answers to help you understand a street conversion and the pros and cons associated with one on Selwyn. Please read through the information below and complete our survey (link is below). Your input is very valuable for this and future street conversions.
